The Dinosaur Hunters
"The Dinosaur Hunters" is a half-hour documentary that explores the world of paleontologist Tim Tokaryk and his crew as they excavate and restore a near-complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton in a valley near Eastend Saskatchewan. The excavation ultimately reveals one of the largest and the most complete T. rex finds to date.
In June 1994, palaeontologists began excavating the T. rex, one of the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs. The 65-million-year old skeleton is the first T. rex found in Saskatchewan, and was named Scotty. As the individual bones were removed from the rock in our labs, Scotty provided new information both about T. rex and about Cretaceous Saskatchewan.
The Cretaceous Period marked the end of the Age of Dinosaurs. Saskatchewan’s fossil record shows that the province was home to both carnivorous and herbivorous dinosaurs, including meat-eaters like Tyrannosaurus rex, horned dinosaurs like Triceratops, and duck-billed dinosaurs.
The T. rex Discovery Centre. Located in Eastend, Saskatchewan. The T. rex Discovery Centre's exhibits feature Saskatchewan's dinosaurs, marine reptiles and prehistoric mammals.
Flight from Darkness
String Theory is at the centre of Percy’s life. It is an area in which he has been able to contribute to some degree through his grasp of the complex mathematics involved within the theory.
His ability to think creatively in this world may (theoretically) partially be a result of Bipolar Disorder, but more importantly, his potential to continue to work in this area is severely jeopardized by the same affliction.
Percy believes the medication he requires to control his illness dampens the way in which he approaches both life and academics. His interest and insights into string theory launched his journey and brought him into contact with like minded people. It also brought him a degree of respect for the first time in his life. For Percy losing the most important thing in his life in order to preserve his life is a very difficult trade-off.
Percy Paul is our doorway into the world of Bipolar Disorder and it’s through Percy’s struggles that we will illuminate this pervasive illness.

Frankie & Walter:
One More Time
In December 1995, something happened that will never happen again. For one sizzling week the frozen plains of western Canada played host to the historic final tour of two of the world's great traditional music icons - Frankie Yankovic and Walter Ostanek. Frankie Yankovic is the almost mythical American Polka King, the originator of the modern musical form, and the main reason the Polka flourishes today. Walter Ostanek is the premier Canadian Polka artist, winner of multiple Grammy awards, and heir apparent to the international Polka throne.
Touring together, one more time, during one of the coldest winters on record - Frankie at age 80 has announced his retirement from the road . . . for now - the program features performances of Frankie and Walter's classic tunes, interviews with the two stars, as well as a behind- the-scenes look at the tour itself - everything that goes into the making of what Frankie Yankovic has termed "the happiest music this side of heaven."
They Live to Polka
It happens every year. From early April until late September, the Canadian Prairies are home to a joyous phenomenon--the polka festival. In small towns across the western plains, thousands of people gather to pay homage to polka music and to indulge their passion for intensely rhythmic celebration. They arrive in brand-new Lincolns, motor homes and half-ton trucks. They're 25, 45 and 85 years old, wearing party clothes or blue jeans. The one trait they share: a passion for polka.
This quirky Prairie film celebrates a culture of festivals, contests and even a Sunday polka Mass--in an irresistible swirl of unrelenting good feelings. Live performances of popular polka bands from Canada and the USA figure prominently as the glue that binds this unique subculture together in irrepressible musical delight.
Season of the Eider
Hardly a day old and already they are risking death. Under their mothers' wings, Atlantic eider ducklings tumble from the nest and scurry across an exposed beach to the sea. Predatory gulls circle above. This beautifully-shot documentary explores the remarkable social behaviour of the Atlantic eiders.
In the spring, huge flocks fly to their nesting grounds where the eiders face harsh conditions and an uncertain fate. The hens nest side by side to form a protective sisterhood against predators. As the ducklings leave the nest, the females band together to fight off attackers and tend to each other's young. From eider courtship to the ducklings' first efforts on perilous open waters, Season of the Eiders tells a stirring tale of tenacity and survival.
Narrated by Loreena McKennitt, the soundtrack includes selections from the Loreena McKennitt albums "The Book of Secrets," "The Mask and the Mirror," "The Visit" and "Parallel Dreams."
